Patricia Field/ACI/Phoenix Art Museum
Overview: This mixed media piece named “Patricia Love” was created for the Phoenix Art Museum in collaboration with the Arizona Costume Institute to honor the legacy and contributions of fashion design icon Patricia Field. Patricia is best known for her role as the costume designer on HBO’s Sex and the City. Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City was my immediate inspiration. I incorporated Patricia’s signature tutu that Carrie wore in the show and wrapped it around a piece of board covered in pink paper. I added a pair of hot pink Manolo Blahnik pumps that have silver acrylic paint spilling out of them onto the tutu. I finished the piece with resin, rhinestones, pink plastic beads and hot pink metal chain
Story: The primary goal was to create a unique piece that could be sold at auction, to capture Patricia Field’s extraordinary design influence through the fusion of art and fashion. The piece was signed by Patricia Field and became a desirable collector’s item.
Impact: The piece went on to be sold as the highest priced item at auction and created social media, press and PR opportunities for the event.
